 When you feel your story or work is in good shape and you have edited it several times, it is a good idea to print a hard copy and read it,  especially if it is going to be used in print media. Another idea is to read your work aloud. Clumsy construction and errors will often be picked up by your ear more readily than they are picked up by your eye.
