    It is said that ” but” is the most unpleasant word in the English language ( because it mostly negates everything else that has gone before)

    using but and and …

    but denotes a negation such as “I would love to come to dinner but am a vegetarian. Is that a problem?” Whereas and simply adds more information to create a complex rather than a simple sentence. “She was wearing a red sweater <b>and</b> a denim skirt”
