I often come across tautology in manuscript reading and so I am bringing it to your attention.

Tautologies are so common we often write them without thinking.

    What are they?

Watch out for them in your own writing. They are everywhere!!

    Examples

He plunged down from the sky

    Two clouds merged together.

    Usual habits

    Unjustly persecuted

    When it was first founded

    Pair off in twos

    Young lad

    No other alternative

    Old crone

    Past history

    Future prospects

    Grateful thanks

    Free gifts

    New innovations

    The general consensus
