    ‘How to Become a Successful Writer’
    Our panel are successful authors: Graeme Lay, Thomas Ryan, Maria Gill, and Paula Morris.

    These writers, representing a variety of genres, will share their top tips and secrets for success.

    Brian Morris will be your host.

    Graeme Lay, author of the best-selling historical fiction trilogy based on the life of Captain James Cook.
    Paula Morris, novelist, short story writer and essayist. Her novel Rangatira won the fiction category at the 2012 NZ Post Book Awards.
    Thomas Ryan, author of the best-selling Jeff Bradley thrillers – top sellers on Amazon.
    Maria Gill, author of 45 educational and children’s books including, Anzac Heroes (2016) and the award-winning New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame.

    Wine & Supper provided for $5.

    NZSA Auckland Branch Announces
    2016 Graeme Lay Short Story Competition

    The winner will receive $350, presented by Graeme Lay at the December branch meeting.

    The winner will read their story or have someone else read it at the December meeting
    Second and third place will receive a bottle of wine at the meeting.

    Conditions of Entry
    The competition is only open to NZSA Auckland branch members. All entries must be original and not previously published or broadcast. Entries should contain 1500 words or fewer. The manuscript should be typewritten, on A4 sheets, double-spaced, and with clear margins. There is no entry fee. Only one story may be submitted, per member. A title page should contain the title of the story, the number of words it contains and the writer’s nom-de-plume. In a brief covering note, provide your name and address, the title of your story and the nom-de-plume you have used on the manuscript. Hard copies of the entries should be posted to:
    The Graeme Lay Short Story Competition, c/o The NZSA, PO Box 7701, Wellesley St, Auckland 1141.
    The closing date for entries is 31 October 2016.

    Meeting Venue
    Courtesy of the AUT and its Master of Creative Writing course, our venue is at the MCW room WT1211, Level 12, AUT Tower, cnr of Rutland and Wakefield St, Auckland City Central.

    Start time 6:15pm but you are welcome to join us later if you are delayed. The venue is within easy walking distance for those using public transport. There is street parking handy as well as parking buildings, including the Aotea Square car park. Looking forward to meeting up with everyone and a special invite is offered to any new members.
