    Getting out there

Aspiring writes often dream of being published in prestigious publications… and so they should. But my advice is to take it one step at a time. Start by getting published anywhere – the school journal, the local sports club, a church newsletter, any newsletter for that matter, letters to the editor, any specialist interest magazine no matter how small, start a simple blog. Sometimes you may have to do this for free but count it as a good investment. Your by-line is out there; your reputation can slowly spread. People always want words, ideas and stories. Even if you are turned down a few times, keep going. Keep pestering; keep putting yourself out there.
