Flash fiction—both fiction and non-fiction—is a wonderful genre in which to practice writing techniques: you have to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end, in a tight word count.
For more than two decades, Brevity: A Journal of Concise Literary Nonfiction has published well-known and emerging writers working in the extremely brief essay form, along with craft essays and book reviews.
Here in Aotearoa, we have National Flash Fiction Day soon (22nd June): https://nationalflash.org/.
This long weekend, try dipping into some craft essays on the Brevity site, or try your hand at writing some flash fiction of your own.
Keep writing,
Caroline
