One of the never ending tasks of writing is expanding your vocabulary.

The use of ‘concrete’ nouns and adjectives bring clarity to writing. By that I mean using the correct term or word in a situation. To do this you need to first find what you think is the right word and then make sure you know it’s meaning.

The other day I got to grips with different types of rock for something I was writing. I had to find the correct term.

    Here are a few:

    Aggregate

    Conglomerate

    Dolomite

    Lodestone

    Obsidian

    Pumice

    Sedimentary

    Shale

    shingle

    schist

    slate

    granite

    basalt

    scoria

    greywacke

    mudstone

    greystone

Do you know the difference? I didn’t but I do now!

    Writing is also endless learning.
